Bayhealth Teams Up with Free Bikes 4 Kidz Delaware to Host Bike Drive with Multiple Drop-off Locations
Have a gently-used bike taking up space in your garage or shed? Free Bikes 4 Kidz (FB4K) Delaware and founding and premier sponsor Bayhealth are hosting a bike drive on Saturday, May 2 from 9 a.m. to 12 noon with drop-off at various Bayhealth locations throughout Delaware. The public is invited to drop off bikes of all sizes. As part of FB4K Delaware’s core mission, these bikes will be refurbished, if needed, by volunteers and given out, along with a new bike helmet, to under-resourced children and teens in local communities.
Bike donation drop-off sites include:
- Bayhealth Outpatient Center, Middletown - 209 E. Main Street, Middletown
- Bayhealth Outpatient Center, Smyrna - 315 N. Carter Road, Smyrna
- Bayhealth Orthopedics, Dover (Bayhealth at Blue Hen) - 651 Bay Road, Dover
- Nemours Building at Bayhealth Sussex Campus - 101 Wellness Way, Milford
- Bayhealth Total Care, Milton - 18383 Hudson Road, Milton
FB4K Delaware was started two years ago as a chapter of the national nonprofit organization geared toward helping all kids ride into a happier, healthier childhood by providing donated bikes to those most in need. Relying on all volunteer support and sponsors like Bayhealth, FB4K Delaware has given out more than 1,300 bikes to date to under-resourced kids and teens in central and southern Delaware. They work with numerous local youth-serving charitable groups to help reach those most in need and facilitate bike distribution. Their mission is also a sustainable one in that they keep used bikes out of landfills and recycle any parts that cannot be re-used.
“Supporting Free Bikes 4 Kidz Delaware reflects our commitment to healthy families and healthy kids,” said Bayhealth Vice President of Marketing, Communications & Community Outreach Amanda Bowie, MSM. “When we help children get active early, we’re setting them up to thrive for life.”
At each of the Bayhealth locations for bike donation, individuals can simply look for the table set up in the parking lot and drive through to drop off bikes. A charitable donation receipt for tax purposes will be available. Bikes of all styles and both kids and adult sizes are welcomed.
