Bayhealth is launching a new neonatology partnership with Nemours Children’s Health, strengthening neonatal services at the Bayhealth Kent Campus in Dover, Delaware.

This collaboration brings Nemours’ nationally recognized neonatology expertise directly to Bayhealth in Dover to increase access to specialized care for newborns while allowing families to remain close to home during a critical time.

Through the partnership, Nemours Children’s Health (NCH) neonatologists will work alongside Bayhealth care teams to provide continued excellent, coordinated care for newborns who require specialized medical attention.

“Bayhealth is excited to partner with Nemours Children’s Health to further strengthen the care we provide to our youngest patients,” said Bayhealth Vice President for Quality and Medical Staff, John Fink, MD. “For families, this means continued access to trusted neonatal care close to home, backed by the combined experience and commitment of Bayhealth and Nemours.”

Nemours Children’s Health and Bayhealth share a strong commitment to the children and families of Delaware,” said Ashish Gupta, MD, FAAP, MBA, CPE, chief partnership officer, Nemours Children’s Health, Delaware Valley. “This partnership, focused on newborn care, will ensure high quality hospital care by neonatologists, neonatal nurse practitioners and specialists, when required, to optimally serve the youngest residents of central Delaware and beyond. Nemours is privileged to serve as Bayhealth’s partner in delivering care excellence.”

Each year, approximately 1,600 babies are born at Bayhealth Kent Campus. Consistent with national averages, about 15% require specialized neonatal care and monitoring. For newborns needing additional support, Bayhealth's 15-bed Level II Special Care Nursery provides advanced care for premature infants and full-term babies with complex medical needs. The nursery is staffed by a multidisciplinary team that includes board-certified neonatologists, neonatal nurse practitioners, clinical nurse specialists, occupational therapists and registered respiratory therapists.

The new partnership with Nemours helps ensure that more families can access advanced neonatal care within their own community.
