Bayhealth’s 41st Annual Spring Golf Tournament, hosted by the Bayhealth Foundation, raised over $102,000 to support the Bayhealth Cancer Institute Nurse Navigator Program during the event held May 28 at Wild Quail Country Club.

The annual tournament brought together community leaders, sponsors, donors and golfers for a day of friendly competition and philanthropy to support cancer care services for patients throughout central and southern Delaware. Proceeds from the tournament will benefit the Bayhealth Cancer Institute Nurse Navigator Program, which provides personalized support and care coordination for patients and families navigating cancer diagnosis, treatment and survivorship.

Prior to the tournament, the Bayhealth Foundation and Bayhealth Cancer Insititute hosted an evening reception for participants, donors, sponsors and supporters that featured a physician panel discussion on health care work force development.

Led by Patricia Isherwood, FACHE, CLSSGB, senior manager of operations for the oncology service line at Bayhealth, the panel included Rishi Sawhney, MD; Stephen Z. Peeke, MD; and Sumukh Arun Kumar, MD, a hematology and medical onoclogy fellow. The discussion highlighted Bayhealth’s physician workforce development efforts, including recruitment and retention initiatives, graduate and undergraduate medical education programs, and the Bayhealth Hematology-Oncology Fellowship program.

“The success of this event reflects our community’s commitment to advancing cancer care close to home,” said Bayhealth Foundation President Lindsay Rhodenbaugh, DMin. “Support for the Nurse Navigator Program helps remove barriers to care and ensures patients have an advocate by their side every step of the way.”

The Bayhealth Foundation thanks its sponsors, donors, participants and community partners whose generosity made the event a success and will help advance compassionate, patient-centered cancer care throughout central and southern Delaware.
