Family Medicine Residency Program

Become a Full-Scope Family Physician in Delaware

The Bayhealth Family Medicine Residency Program is designed to train the kind of physician we would trust with our own families. Our residents gain strong clinical skills, hands-on experience in full-scope family medicine, and a deep connection to the Delaware communities they serve.

As a competitive 8-8-8 family medicine residency, we provide comprehensive training across the entire spectrum of care—newborns, pediatrics, adult medicine, obstetrics, geriatrics, inpatient care, and end-of-life support. Residents customize their training through an elective curriculum that aligns with their career goals. Daily real-time video precepting ensures meaningful feedback, direct observation, and continuous growth. Robust procedural training and point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) prepare graduates for confident practice in any setting.

A Program Built for Leaders, Educators, and Advocates

From the first year, residents take on leadership and teaching roles—working with medical students, leading quality improvement projects, and gaining practice management skills. Our team-based clinic features integrated behavioral health and clinical pharmacy, giving residents firsthand experience with truly collaborative, patient-centered care.

Community-Focused Family Medicine Training

What truly sets us apart is our strong community engagement. Through home visits, our street medicine program, and partnerships with shelters, migrant clinics, veteran services, and behavioral health organizations, residents learn how social determinants of health shape patient outcomes. This longitudinal community medicine experience empowers residents to become advocates for equity and access.

At Bayhealth, we are building a mission-driven residency rooted in service, excellence, and innovation. We seek residents who are compassionate, curious, and eager to make a meaningful impact on the health of Delaware communities.
